CHALLENGE
Corresponding to the upgrading to 800 MHz service for their emergency communications system, Alamance County needed to expand their 911 call center administrative offices and caller stations. Located on the ground floor of the County Office Building, the available space for the program expansion was a large, adjacent, windowless space with low ceilings and inadequate ventilation.

SOLUTION
Without the need for high level ambient lighting, the low suspended ceiling could be removed to expose the pan-formed concrete joist ceiling, relieving the otherwise oppressively low, overhead plane. Track lights over each caller station provided task lighting and a subtle spatial definition to each station. Storefront glass on one side allowed needed observation from administrative areas. Storefront between the public corridor and main caller area allowed an interested public (ie. student groups) to witness the dimly-lit array of 6-monitor call stations of this critical, highly technical government service.
